Ramadan Gift Project

For several years, HeaRT has sent Ramadan gift packages to men imprisoned at Guantánamo. These packages go to the men imprisoned without charges, those whom the government has labelled “non-High Value Detainees.” Relying on the generosity of our donors, we have been able to send them coffee, dates, figs, tahini, pastries, halawa and other candy, manuka honey, Zamzam water, spices, rice, perfume, new shirts and new shoes for the holiday. In addition to enjoying the gifts themselves, the imprisoned men say that they are touched and grateful by this reminder that they are not forgotten.
